Starling is a difficult mare to get along with as she has a very conflicting personality. She doesn't make friends easily as she is quiet and rather introverted and never comfortable even standing within a crowd and although she has strong opinions she never shares them unless invited to do so, and even then it's rather reluctant on her part. She comes across as very sharp-tongued and cruel when she is comfortable with someone, which often confuses those that she considers 'friends' and speaks frankly to. She sees the truth as something that must be faced, even if it's horrible, and considers her telling someone the truth as a nice thing to do on her part. Mostly the other tolters don't agree with this.
She is very determined and single-minded in the sense that when she gets her mind set to something she never lets it go. This leads to obsessive behavior. She has a thing about watching birds that most of Clovercliff doesn't understand, and is content to stand somewhere in a meadow and watch the movements of the flocks. Many of the wild birds are comfortable with her and will land about her hooves and even on her back and neck to chirp and feed and gossip. Starling likes all birds, including the ravens that make most other horses nervous and even the hawks that are larger than comforting. Surprisingly Starling has a very maternal aspect of her personality although usually this extends only to birds and the like; she has difficulty understanding foals.
